Electrophysiology and Pacing Cardiologist

Dr David Chieng is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist who specializes in the management of heart rhythm disturbances, including cardiac arrhythmia ablation (SVT, Atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia) and cardiac device implantation (pacemaker, defibrillator, cardiac resynchronization therapy). He also manages other adult cardiovascular conditions including cardiovascular risk assessment, coronary artery disease, and congestive cardiac failure.

He has admitting rights to Mulgrave Private Hospital/ SJOG Berwick. He has a public appointment as a consultant cardiologist and post-doctoral research fellow at the Alfred Hospital.

He completed his medical degree through the University of Western Australia, winning multiple academic prizes during his training. He completed his cardiology advanced training in Perth, followed by a 4 year clinical fellowship training in electrophysiology and pacing at the Alfred Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. He completed his PhD with the support of the prestigious combined NHMRC/NHF postgraduate research scholarships, and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Bright Sparks scholarship. He has been recognised for his achievements in clinical research by being awarded 17 young investigator awards, including the prestigious awards of Eric N. Prystowsky Fellow Clinical Researcher Award 2023, Paul Korner Medal for Outstanding PhD Achievements 2021, Young Investigator Award (top conference prize) at the 14th and 15th Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Congress (Suzhou 2021, Singapore 2022), Noel and Imelda Foster Prize for Cardiovascular Research 2022, and the Heart Failure Prize, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand ASM 2022
